INTRODUCTION

This is an ESP course offered to the students of the Departments of Safety Engineering and Crisis Management of the Pedagogical University of Kraków. Within their 110 hour general English course, they are supposed to do a certain amount of hours of English for Specific Purposes each term. This course covers 10 hours of ESP.

The aim of this course is for students to gain a better understanding of safety engineering and crisis management problems, although not so much to deepen the students' knowledge of technical sciences, physics, mathematics, chemistry, industrial and system engineering or the rules and regulations regarding public health and safety as such, but rather to develop the English language competence required for such specialised content.

By the end of this course you will have practised reading, listening and writing skills and you will have extended your knowledge of specialist terminology through the whole range of interesting texts, vocabulary exercises and original talks related to the subject. The main focus of grammar is on modal verbs and narrative tenses.
