The course aims at familiarizing the students with the research results and theories on the processes of language acquisition, reception and production of language, both oral and written.

Course contents:

1.     First and second language acquisition in the natural environment.

2.     Language and the brain:Introduction to neurolinguistics.

3.     Speech comprehension: sounds, words and sentences.

4.     Understanding written texts: from sentence to discourse; writing systems.

5.     Understanding texts in a foreign language; language processing disorders (dyslexia)

6.    Mental lexicon; words vs meanings; lexical access.

7.     Planning and production of speech;
