The aim of the course Teaching practical English: Practical phonetics 1 is to acquaint the students with the phonetic aspects of the English language, both segmental, covering the vowels, consonants and semivowels, and suprasegmental, including word and phrasal stress, rhythm and intonation. Since phonetic considerations which do not lead to phonological generalizations are pointless, the more abstract, phonological aspects of English will be given due attention.
